Green beans served with beef brisket and mashed potatoes

I have the perfect green bean recipe for you. In fact, they taste so good I recommend you don't share. If you do, you will be making these for every pot lock and pitch-in you're invited to (trust me!!!) Don't skip a single step, though. These beans aren't as easy as popping open a can, but they are worth the time it takes! Enjoy!!!

1 lb Bag Southern Selects French Style Green Beans - this will be in the produce section. They are fresh and in a clear steamer bag.

1/2 lb Bacon

1/2 onion or 1/4 c Finely diced onion

2 tsp Minced garlic

2 c Chicken broth

First, start by using a fork to poke holes in the green bean steamer bag. Place the bad in the microwave for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, chop the bacon in to small pieces, and dice the onion very fine.

Cook the bacon in a large, high-sided skillet or a large pot over medium-high heat until ALMOST crisp. Do not drain the grease. Then, add in the onion, and cook about 3-5 minutes until the onion is translucent. Add in the garlic, and cook a minute longer.

Time to add the beans... just open the package and toss them in with the bacon mixture. I like to use tongs and toss the beans so they are all evenly coated with the bacon grease.

Pour in the chicken broth and bring it to a boil. Once it is boiling, lower the heat to a simmer, and put a lid on your skillet/pot. Let the beans cook for 20-30 minutes until they are limp and a dark green color. Be sure to stir often so the beans stay coated in that yummy bacon grease and don't burn.

Take the lid off and continue cooking until the juices are mostly gone. Once they are super soft and smell amazing, dish them out and watch your family eat their veggies!
